Tickets and Weekend Photos Part One

I bought my TICKET!!!!
I am seriously on my way.
My poor coworkers had to humor me as I bounced around the office so nervous and excited about actually purchasing my tickets to AFRICA.. and tickets in Africa!
By far the largest purchase of my life thus far.
I am so exciting and buzzing with the reality that I am really GOING TO AFRICA!
Jesus is Lord!

Now for the LOOOOONG awaited weekend pictures.
As I mentioned before... Eat, Pray, Love does not come out until August 16th. So Jean Michelle and I saw Coco and Igor instead. After, we took a gorgeously warm walk through our city and central park.. ending up on the fountain of Lincoln Center (pictures to come). This is the second weekend this month that I have ended up on this fountain counting down the hours to midnight. Such a beautiful city I live in.

Travel Agents and Storage Units

AFRICA Update!
Soooo... it's been a hell of a week and it is only TUESDAY!

I was so happy to have FINALLY gotten a hold of the dear travel agent who has been so inundated by the Wold Cup travelers that he hasn't had a second to return any of my calls or emails.. until yesterday! So now I  am in the middle of discussions with him to plan my trip.

I will officially be staying the month of August in Mozambique working with Could You?
(More on that to come.. soooo excited)
Then four days of Sept. in Johannesburg, South Africa to debrief from our trip...
Then 2-3 months in Cape Town South Africa depending on what I decide to do.
One of those months or any period of time, really.. could be spent in Burundi.

I will be working with a Burundian couple who have planted several churches, started schools and orphanages and are now working on an educational center for women. I am still discussing with them, but am thinking they may have been my reason for going to Burundi after all!
I love the concept of supporting Africans to care for their own people and their own land.
However, I feel I will learn more from them than they could learn from me.

I have also been researching storage units for the time I am gone and pulling my hair out at the prices. It costs an arm and a leg to store stuff in Manhattan. Considering the fact that I do not have a drivers license, I think I will pick the place around the block from me and pay what I need to pay for the convenience.
Done and done!

Here I go.. I am going to AFRICA!

Spring time in the Cape!

Ok Ok.. I know, I apologize for not posting my weekend pictures! They are sooo glorious too, I cannot wait to share them. I just didn't have time last night between cooking meals for the week, getting my ass kicked by Ashley B at the gym and winding down from my mega drama packed day. Alas, they will have to wait!
But, for now, I am dreaming of summer dresses.. it's been excruciatingly hot here in NYC, and I am left dreaming of a Mozambican winter. However, it will be spring by the time I reach South Africa and I am currently lusting over this dress. Might just purchase it for hot days in Cape Town.
Whattaya think?

The Almighty Jump Suite

How adorable is this jump suite??
Of course I would belt it and wear it with plenty of gold bangles and gold sandals..
If only I could afford such a darling piece.

Yet Another French Film

I know, I know.. I promised that I watch main stream movies from time to time and I DO I REALLY DO!
However, this weekend I did not get a chance to see "Eat Pray Love" do to it's August 13th release date, a small dent in my weekend plans. Jean Michelle and I saw "Coco and Igor" instead at the Paris Theater and had such an incredible evening... pictures to come later tonight!
"Coco and Igor" was quite a facinating picture, painting Coco in a much different light than the other films I have seen. She was depicted as a very manipulative, strong, independent woman who used her fame and her fortune to get what she wanted out of a man, shortly after the death of her one true love. From the biographies I have read, it is a much truer depiction than the glorified Coco, we all know and admire.
Nonetheless, "Coco and Igor" was a stunning film, well worth the $13 if only for the wardrobe, the interiors and the brilliantly beautiful sound track of Igor Stravinsky's music that takes on a life of it's own and adds a riveting dimension to the film.

The Voyage of life

Eat, Pray, Love

I watch mainstream movies too.. I promise!
This weekend I will be going to see this delightful film with a dear friend. This friend is more like a sister than a friend, but is also a current flat-mate. We are devastated to be leaving one another soon...since we are getting kicked out of our Apt. against our will! I am not bitter I promise. I have a feeling that she and I both are on the verge of a whole new season of life. We are both terrified and exhilarated by all the newness that will soon be coming our way. Africa is a huge step for me into a life that will inevitably look different from this point going forward. I think this film will be an encouragement for us both and a shared experience that will only draw us closer.. as we part... at least for a little while.

I will do my best to take lots of fun New York life pictures this weekend and will post on Monday.
Hope you all enjoy your weekends.. they might be as needed as mine!

Kisses xx

I feel it all

I am starting to understand the possible impact of this step and it is terrifying...
Thrilling, yet terrifying.

Un Homme et Une Femme

Exhausted, coming home from the gym last night, I was thrilled to see a local white wine chilling in the fridge and a new NetFlix awaiting me on top of the mail pile. Popping in the DVD "A Man and A Woman" or "Un Homme et Une Femme" I didn't quite know what I was getting into, reading the short description via NetFlix I didn't even know when the film was made. However, I ended up being ecstatic at the outcome.

This charming french film made by Claude LeLouch, made in 1966, is what he calls, an accident and a miracle. A love story about a widow and a widower whose children go to the same boarding school. They meet by chance as their unfolding relationship begins it's journey on a long ride home to Paris. LeLouch does a brilliant job of dealing with the tension of parenthood and past loves as he tackles the development of this growing relationship. With sparse dialogue, distant establishing shots and lengthy flash back sequences, LeLouch seemed to accidentally create a new style of film. According to him, it was all due to a tight budget and a rushed shooting schedule. On the verge of financial ruin, "Un Homme et Une Femme" is the film that put LeLouch on the map and made him enough money to keep his production company afloat, enabling him to make over 30 more films throughout his career.
A thoroughly enjoyable experience. I might need to add this film to my collection. What a way to spend a Monday night.

Not to mention the stunning beauty of Anouk Amiee! For the first ten minutes of the film I couldn't tell when it was made. I realized it had either been made in the 60's or last year. The fashion was so stellar and timeless I wanted every piece that she wore. Specifically her stove pipe straight leg jeans, her suede, sherpa jacket and her numerous black backless dresses. Even her hair! It has given me fresh inspiration for my own bob.

Weekend photos

My weekend proved to be fantastic.
I am at home in Manhattan with so many people that I have come to love.
Living here five plus years has given history and this weekend I was able to take some time going back to my old stomping grounds down town. Living on Lafayette street when I first moved here,
Greenwich village, the Lower East Side, Little Italy and China town were my common places.
It was a delight going back to China town with my girls and tragic to see that all of our favorite places have changed or gone out of business. We took full responsibility realizing that it has been quite a while since we've been back. Who knew our patronage was keeping them afloat! Walking through Washington Square park and through the East Village to get to a party proved to be a delight as well. Celebrating the Wasko's 10th wedding anniversary in a quaint community garden was such a treat.
The weekend was too short, but much loved.
